Compress Images

Make image files smaller by re-encoding them at a lower quality while the pixel size stays the same. You choose the quality and the output format, and each result shows how much smaller it became. If a file is already well compressed, the tool keeps your original instead.

Questions

What quality setting should I use?
Start with the default of 70%. Lower settings, down to 30%, give smaller files with more visible loss of detail; higher settings, up to 100%, keep more detail but save less space.
Can I keep my image as a PNG?
No. Compressed files are saved as JPG or WebP. Choose WebP if you need to keep transparent areas.
What if a file does not get smaller?
Some images are already compressed efficiently. With the option that is on by default, the tool keeps your original file in that case and tells you so.
Does compressing change the width and height?
No. The pixel size stays the same. To make images smaller in pixels as well, use the Resize Images tool.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The images are compressed in your browser on your own device and are never uploaded.
